MISCARRIAGE
A miscarriage is a loss of a fetus before it is able to live outside of the uterus, typically before the 20th week of pregnancy. When the woman’s uterus loses her fetus later in pregnancy, it is considered a preterm delivery. It is often very difficult to pinpoint the specific cause or causes of a miscarriage, and usually there is little that can be done to stop a miscarriage.
A miscarriage can cause complex physical and emotional distress in an expecting mother and her family. If you have had one or more miscarriages, it is important to remember that many women whom have miscarried in the past go on to have multiple normal pregnancies and give birth to children without complications. Our practitioners carry compassion, experience, and specialty expertise in helping women whom have miscarried by offering their support, guidance, and medical treatment if necessary.
TREATMENT FOR MISCARRIAGE
Our practitioners will help determine the best course of treatment for a miscarriage, accounting for factors such as the type of miscarriage, gestational age, symptoms, and your emotional health. If evaluation of these factors shows that treatment may help, treatment can be administered in the form of medications and/or surgery. Our physicians and certified nurse midwives will also carefully explain follow-up care throughout your future attempts to become pregnant and carry a child full-term.
